[He knows it's ironic all things considered, but he doesn't like the idea of a vampire running around unchecked. Or Rose running around with said vampire.]
[He sighs and shifts. Normally, under any other circumstance, he would have given her the third degree. But it's late. And he's tired of this house and all the shit it dumps on them.]
[He inspects, but can't help feeling like an asshole for it. Sam nods, and moves back to his original perch against the counter. They can hear the sharp dripping of the tap against the forgotten kettle in the sink. The house creaks with age. She's standing there trying to do the right thing, and Sam has no idea how he's supposed to feel.
The fact of the matter is that there are vampires who can control themselves. Who are capable of living off animals and make the conscious decision to do no harm. He's seen it with his own eyes. And that little spark of humanity inside the monster gives him hope that maybe he isn't so bad off, either.
And then he realizes just how upset he was at the idea of Rose being around this guy. And just how attached to her he is. And it scares the hell out of him.
[He's about to answer with one of the several names he's been called over the years, but falls quiet when Rose begins to laugh. And especially when Rose lays her head against his shoulder.
Sam smiles, laughing lightly once or twice. It's a nice sort of relief, but to be honest, he's distracted by her up against him like this. Moonlight shining off her blonde hair. The white nightgown.
He doesn't realize it until his hand is brushing lightly through her hair to comfort, but-
She looks just like Jess.
A pang of hurt crosses his face in the dark and his hand drops back to his side. Hopefully she doesn't notice the retreat. Somewhere in the back of his mind Sam can hear the fire.
Well, not tonigh'. Tomorrow, maybe. Late, when 'e wakes up. Midnigh' is easy enough t' remember, yea? We're both usually still up a' tha' hour, anyway.
[He rubs a bit of sleep out of one eye. Hnngh he's so torn over so many things right now, you have no idea.
But because they live next door to each other, he waits for her to leave so he can follow. Sam isn't even tired, really. Not with all this to think about, now. All this to not talk to Dean about.
He's gonna be so pissed when he finds out. And he will find out sooner or later. He always does.]
